CORVALLIS, Ore. - No. 21 BYU posted its second-highest road score of the season at No. 11 Oregon State on Monday night in a 196.975 to 196.375 defeat at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis.

“This is a magical season we have going right now," head coach Guard Young said. Our girls were awesome from start to finish. Our bars team was fantastic, Shannon stuck an unbelievable vault, our floor team was exquisite and those kids just hung with it on beam. We're just doing good gymnastics consistently."

Monday's meet marked the sixth time this season the Cougars have earned a 49.000 or higher in at least three of the four events.

The Cougars shone on floor, setting the high score of the night on the event with a 9.900 from Kyleigh Greenlief and three scores of 9.875. Angel Zhong earned a new career-high on bars with a 9.850, Shannon Hortman Evans set a new season-high on vault with a 9.850 and Hannah Miller received a career-high score 9.875 on beam.

The Cougars started the night on bars, earning a 49.100. Every gymnast earned a 9.800 or higher, with Zhong setting a new career-high 9.850. Shannon Hortman and Abby Boden both earned a 9.825, putting BYU just ahead of Oregon State (49.050) at the end of the first rotation.

BYU then moved to vault in the second rotation. Evans earned a season-high 9.850 as Avery Bennett followed up with a 9.775. The Beavers took the lead after earning a 49.300 on bars, leaving the Cougars behind with a 97.875 to OSU's 98.350.

In the third rotation, the Cougars earned the second-highest season score on floor with a 49.350. Greenlief led the team with her 9.900, followed up by a triple 9.875 from Miner, Evans and van Mierlo. Van Mierlo matched her season high, while Miner matched her career high with those scores. Oregon State maintained the advantage entering the final rotation with a 147.400 to BYU's 147.225.

Finishing the meet on beam, BYU pulled ahead for a time with big performances, earning a 49.150 on the event. Hannah Miller achieved a career high with a 9.875, and Natasha Trejo Marsh received the same score. Abby Boden posted a 9.825, but the Beavers finished strong on floor for the win by recording a season-high 49.575 as four gymnasts earning over a 9.900.

While coming up short, BYU's final tally of 196.375 was the team's best road performance since scoring a 196.450 at Southern Utah on Feb. 9.

The Cougars will celebrate Senior Night this Friday in a quad meet against Penn State, Utah State and Texas Woman’s. The meet will start at 7 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse. Live stats and live streaming will be available.

PROVO, Utah — No. 24 BYU heads north to Logan, Utah, to take on conference rival Utah State on Friday night in the Aggies’ annual Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Meet before traveling to Corvallis, Oregon, to face No. 8 Oregon State on Monday. 

"This is a longer weekend for us, so we've been preparing all week,” head coach Guard Young said. "We get to have a great, aggressive start with our bar lineup, and we end on beam, so we've got to be able to focus and stay mindful of where we're at and what we're doing."

The Cougars will again wear the pink leotards at USU after they debuted them last week in their home Pink Meet against Boise State. In that meet last Friday night, BYU took down the Broncos, 196.225 to 196.175, with three BYU gymnasts earning Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Specialists of the Week honors. Angel Zhong matched her career-high on vault with a 9.850. Shannon Hortman Evans and Kyleigh Greenlief both set new career records that night; Evans with a 9.900 on bars and Greenlief with the highest score of the night, a 9.950 on floor.

Utah State recorded a season-high road score of 195.325 last Friday against Denver, Michigan and Bowling Green. Freshman Mikaela Meyer was named one of the MRGC Vault Specialists of the Week after earning a 9.850 on the event. Another Aggie freshman, Autumn DeHarde, placed first on floor at the meet after matching her career-high 9.925. 

Oregon State posted a second season-high road score against UCLA on Sunday, 196.525, as the Beavers exceeded the 49-point mark on all four events. Sophomore Isis Lowery and freshman Kaitlyn Yanish both earned a 9.900 on floor, confirming Oregon State's sixth-place national ranking on the event. 

The Cougars will host a fireside while in Oregon on Sunday night. The fireside will be held at 7 p.m. at a LDS Church building in Albany, Oregon. Attendance will be open to the public.

"These firesides are an awesome experience for the girls to give a message to the youth in the area," Young said. "I find it so rewarding to hear the stories of these girls and their trials and everything they struggle with. It really puts things into perspective and reminds me why we're doing all of this."

The national rankings switched to regional qualifying scores (RQS) this weekend, ranking teams by the top six scores instead of overall season average. The top six scores are determined by the three highest away and home scores, putting the Cougars at a No. 24 national ranking.

The meet on Friday starts at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glenn Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah. Live streaming and live stats will be available. The Oregon State meet will be held on Monday, March 5 at 7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MST, at Gill Coliseum. Live streaming and live stats will be available.
