Pullman, Wash. – The BYU women’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Washington State Friday at the Simmelink Tennis Courts.
BYU’s No. 1 doubles pair of senior Megan Price and freshman Meghan Sheehan-Dizon pulled through in doubles for the only win of the day for the Cougars (2-4), taking an 8-4 decision over Liudmila Vasilieva and Andjela Kankaras.
Despite taking the first win of the match, BYU was unable to hold its ground against Washinton State (9-2). Junior Aubrey Paul and freshman Lisa Waldron dropped their match on Court 3 to Elizaveta Luzina and Olga Musilovich, 8-2. Playing at the No. 2 position, sophomore Desiree Tran and freshman Morgan Anderson narrowly fell, 8-6, to Elisabeth Fournier and Charlotte Koning.
In singles, Price fell on Court 2 to No. 115 Fournier in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Vasilieva defeated BYU’s Tran, 7-6, 6-0. Luzina’s 6-4, 6-4 win over BYU’s Sheehan-Dizon secured the match win for Washington State.
Anderson fought hard on Court 3, pushing Kankaras to three sets. Anderson battled her way back after dropping the first set to take the second. The final set would come down to a tiebreaker. However, Anderson’s effort was not enough to avoid a Washington State sweep as she went on to fall 6-2, 3-6, 7-6.
The Cougars next face Idaho Saturday at the Simmelink Courts at noon.
