BYU to break ground on Athletic Complex Monday, Sept. 16

Brigham Young University will conduct a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Athletic Complex on Monday, Sept. 16 at 3:00 p.m. The ground breaking will take place at Haws Field located directly west of the Smith Fieldhouse.

The public is invited to attend.

President Merrill J. Bateman, Val Hale, Elaine Michaelis, Coach Gary Crowton, other athletic administrators, and student-athletes will be in attendance. Elder Henry B. Eyring of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and members of the President's Leadership Council will also be in attendance.

Representatives of Okland/Span Construction (a joint venture) and architectural firm VCBO Architecture of Salt Lake City, will also be on hand for the historic event.

The new Athletic Complex, which will be completed fall 2003, consists of two buildings; a 106,000 square foot Indoor Practice Facility (west of the Smith Fieldhouse) and a 116,000 square foot Student Athlete Center (north of the Smith Fieldhouse).

Due to contruction, parking will be available at the parking lot west of LaVell Edwards Stadium. Limited shuttle service will be available from the stadium to Haws Field.
