BYU and UVHBA Begin Work on Cougar House II
May 1 marked the official beginning of construction on Cougar House II at the Ranches in Eagle Mountain. Cougar House is a Utah Valley Home Builders Association project to raise money for athletic scholarships at Brigham Young University.
The original Cougar House, located in Camelot Village in Springville, was completed in July 2001, under the direction of the UVHBA. The house was built by more than 60 contractors, suppliers, and tradesmen who donated their time, materials, and labor. Proceeds of more than $106,000 from the sale of Cougar House I were used to endow an athletic scholarship at BYU.
"Cougar House I was a great experience for the BYU Athletic Department," said Val Hale, director of men's athletics at BYU. "Our ongoing relationship with the Utah Valley Home Builders and the generosity of Scott Kirkland of the Ranches, and the John D. Jacob Company, is very exciting. Their generosity and talent will provide much-needed financial assistance for our scholarship endowment program."
Cougar House II is located on a three-acre lot at 8061 North Simpson Road at the Ranches. The 1790-square foot rambler contains three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a three-car garage. It will also have a full-unfinished basement. Features include a brick and stucco exterior, vaulted ceilings, central vacuum, fireplace, tile floors, master suite and a jetted tub. The lot has animal rights and will be partially landscaped.
"The Ranches is excited to be involved with Cougar House II," said Scott Kirkland, who donated the three-acre property for the project. "This is a great opportunity to assist the Utah Valley Home Builders in supporting the BYU Athletic Department. We look forward to having Cougar House II in this year's Parade of Homes and anticipate great exposure for the Cougar House project."
The 2002 Parade of Homes runs from July 13-27 and is sponsored by UVHBA. The 2002 Parade will feature 25 homes throughout Utah Valley. Homes are open from Noon to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. More than 24,000 people attended the Parade of Homes in 2001. Cougar House II will be free to public. Parade of Homes tickets are $7 and may be purchased at any Far West Bank, the Provo Towne Centre Mall, or at any of the 25 Parade Homes. Tickets are on sale from July 13-27.
"Last year was a great beginning for our partnership with BYU and this year promises to be even better," said Mitch McCuistion, UVHBA Chair of Cougar House II. "What could be better than bringing the Ranches, members of the Utah Valley Home Builder Association and BYU Athletics together, to help student-athletes? We look forward to Cougar House II being part of the 2002 Parade of Homes."
Kelvin Bailey, Mayor of Eagle Mountain City, as will representatives of the UVHBA, Far West Bank, the Ranches, the BYU Athletic Department and Cosmo were on hand to raise the first wall of the project.
