Cougars to open WCC Championships vs. Santa Clara

BYU vs. Santa Clara Game Notes

BYU basketball will open play at the 2016 West Coast Conference Championships Saturday at 1 p.m. PST against Santa Clara in the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The Cougars are the No. 3 seed while the Broncos are the No. 6 seed. The winner of BYU vs. Santa Clara will face the winner of No. 2 seed Gonzaga and No. 7 seed Portland on Monday.

Saturday's game will be televised live on BYUtv, TWC SportsNet, CSN Bay Area, ROOT Northwest and ROOT Rocket Mountain-Utah and broadcast live on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, KSL NewsRadio 102.7 FM/1160 AM and BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143. Live video streaming will be available on BYUtv.org and TheW.tv.

BYU Storylines

  • BYU enters the 2016 West Coast Conference Championships as the No. 3 seed after posting a 13-5 record in league play. The Cougars will play No. 6 seed Santa Clara in the quarterfinals for the second-straight season. Last year BYU defeated the Broncos 78-76 to advance to the semifinals.
  • The Cougars enter the WCC Championships seeking their first conference tournament championship since 2001. BYU has reached the WCC Championship game each of the last two years where it was eliminated by Gonzaga.
  • BYU collected several accolades when the West Coast Conference honors were announced Tuesday. Senior Kyle Collinsworth was named the WCC Player of the Year and first-team All-WCC. Fellow senior Chase Fischer was also named to the First Team while freshman Nick Emery was named to the Second and Freshman Teams.
