BYU Cross Country Back in Action
PROVO, Utah--After a much-needed break last week, the BYU cross country teams are back in action as they head to Madison to participate in the third annual Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Friday.
The No. 6 men’s team has taken first place in every meet they have participated in thus far. After winning the Notre Dame Invitational, scoring half as many points as the second place team, the team is excited for the opportunity to run in another big national meet.
The Cougars will be pitted against 38 other teams, 19 of which are ranked in the national polls. Along with the 20 ranked teams participating, four are ranked in the top ten including Wisconsin (2), Indiana (7), NC State (9) and Oregon (10).
BYU is led by Miles Batty, who has taken first place in every meet he has participated in this season and was recently named the West Coast Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Month.
The men’s race will be an 8K held on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course and will begin at 1:40 p.m. CDT.
The No. 27 women’s team is coming off a sixth place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational, a race in which Morgan Haws came in second overall with a time of 17:02.
Competing in her first cross country season at BYU, Haws has shown real promise for the Cougars, taking second overall in both of the meets she has participated in.
There are 42 teams participating in the women’s race. Of those 42 teams, 19 are ranked nationally, and seven are ranked in the top ten, including No. 1 Villanova, No. 2 Providence, No. 6 Stanford, No. 7 New Mexico, No. 8 Syracuse, No. 9 Iowa State and No. 10 Cal.
The women will run a 6K at the race time is set for 1 p.m. CDT.
