Merizalde Earns Mountain West Honors
PROVO -- Senior All-American Manuel Merizalde was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for October. Merizalde was outstanding in September, finishing four of six rounds under-par 72 and two rounds at par 72.
At the Cleveland Golf/Kiawah Island Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C., Merizalde led the Cougars to a fourth-place finish, while placing second individually, Sept. 10-11. His scores improved in each of the three rounds, finishing strong with a final round 67.
Merizalde established himself as a clutch golfer at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M, Sept. 21-22. Going into the final round in fifth place, Merizalde played through 18 holes on the Championship Course with only 66 strokes. The final round 66 ties Merizalde's career-low score and marks the lowest round score for the MWC this season. He also leads the MWC with a 69.5 stroke average on the season.
In September, Merizalde also earned the acclaim of Golf World magazine as its Men's College Player of the Month in the Sept. 29 issue.
