Merizalde Leads Cougars at Morris Williams

Austin, Texas--BYU's Manuel Merizalde shot a second-round 68 to move him into seventh place at the 35th Annual Cleveland Golf Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Monday.

Merizalde shot the second lowest round of the day behind No. 1 ranked Bryce older of Georgia Tech who shot a first round 67. Thanks to Merizalde's stellar second round the Cougars sit in 12th place. The 2001 Morris Williams field includes eight of the nation's top 25 teams including No. 10 BYU.

BYU collected a nation's best sixth tournament victory last season as it tied UNLV for the title.The Cougars now trail the leader No. 3 Georgia Tech by 26 strokes.

The Cougars who have struggled somewhat of late rebounded after a tough first round. BYU shot a 295 during the second 36 holes to record only its second sub-300 round in the last eight rounds. The Cougars have also fallen in the rankings from No. 5 in January to its current No. 10 position. BYU hopes to rebound in the tournament's third and final round on Tuesday.
