BYU's Miller named to the 2000 Palmer Cup Team

Orlando, FL -- Brigham Young University All-American golfer Andy Miller has been named a member of the 2000 U.S. Palmer Cup Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Miller, a senior at BYU, is the first Cougar to be named to the prestigious team. The Palmer Cup is a Ryder Cup-style event featuring eight of the top men's collegiate golfers from the United States against their counterparts from Great Britain-Ireland.

The fourth annual Palmer Cup will take place August 15-16 at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club-Hoylake in Hoylake, England. Joining Miller on the team are John Engler, Lucas Glover and Jonathan Byrd of Clemson, Nick Cassinni of Georgia, Charles Howell of Oklahoma State, Jeff Klauk of Florida Southern, and the 2000 NCAA Division I Individual Champion.

Miller, a three-time All-American in his first three years at BYU, leads the No. 6 ranked Cougars into the 2000 NCAA Championships beginning Wednesday, May 31 at Grand National Golf Club in Opelika, Alabama.

Miller is currently ranked No. 10 in the nation among NCAA Division I golfers and is also the No. 1 ranked golfer in District VII in the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings.

"In my mind, Andy is the best collegiate golfer in the nation," Brockbank said. "He is the total package. Academically and athletically he gives you everything he's got every day. He does his best because that's who he is. It's been a privilege for me to coach him for the past four years."

Miller has proven he is one of the top young amateur golfers in the nation after finishing runner-up at the prestigious Western Amateur in

1997 and 1999. Playing against the top collegiate golfers in the nation last November at the Savane All-American Classic Miller finished tied for first with Georgia Tech's Matt Kucher.

The U.S. Palmer Cup team will be coached by Ross Randall, head golf coach at the University of Kansas. Assisting Randall is Mark Simpson, head coach at Colorado and Timothy Brown, head coach at Skidmore College.
