Moving up with One Round to Go
HOLLISTER, Calif., –Behind solid play from Zac Blair and Cole Ogden the BYU men’s golf team moved up to third place after the second round of action at the West Coast Conference Championships on Tuesday.
Blair continued to play well, posting a second round 3-under 69, following his 2-under 70 on Monday. After six birdies in round one, Blair birdied six holes in round two. The junior started his second consecutive round with a birdie and finished the round with a birdie.
“Zac is right in it," BYU coach Bruce Brockbank said. "He is tough, it will be exciting to see what he does tomorrow."
Sophomore Cole Ogden quietly moved up the leaderboard shooting a 1-under 71 in round two. Ogden birdied the seventh hole and played par on the back nine, moving from 14th to 11th.
As a team the Cougars shot a 2-under 286 to cut St. Mary’s lead to 15 strokes with one round to go.
"We played better today than we did in round one," Brockbank said. "The back nine is the toughest part of the course and we finished a lot better today. We just need to gain our momentum early, hit some birdies and keep the pressure on the leaders."
The final round will be played on Wednesday.
