Nyman and Lozano Advance to Quarterfinals in Regionals

LAS -- Erik Nyman and Carlos Lozano continued to play well on Thursday in the Region Championships as they both advanced to the round of 16 in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles.

Nyman picked up right were he left off the day before by beating Tomasz Grzyb of Utah 7-5, 6-2. Lozano advanced to the round of 16 by beating Eric Pittman of Air Force 6-4, 6-1. Nyman will face fifth-seeded Divan Coetzee of New Mexico and Lozano will face Ryan Redondo of San Diego State on Friday morning.

In doubles, Lozano and Nyman had a bye in the first round before beating Hans Gaber and Bob Mattson of the University of Denver 8-4 in the round of 32 and Hestian Stoica and Malcolm Swan of Idaho State 8-5 in the round of 16. Lozano and Nyman will face Thomas Schoeck and Matias Silva of Boise State in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.

After advancing past the first round on Wednesday, Jeff Olsen and Alonzo Medina were able to beat Daniel Albeaoru and Martin Silek of Weber State 8-2 before losing to Brent Salazar and Ryan Stottland of New Mexico 8-5.

Jose Lechuga and Anton Rudjuk were unable to advance past the second round as they lost to Luis Avila and Mark Roberts of New Mexico State 9-8.

Play continues in Las Vegas on Friday morning with one round of doubles and two round of singles to be played.
