Lechuga Named MWC Player of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- BYU sophomore Jose Luis Lechuga has been named Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week. This is his first career weekly honor.
With the Cougars top two players out of the lineup, Lechuga stepped into the No. 1 position in singles and doubles and pulled out victories in both against Utah State. In singles play, he defeated the Aggies' Jonah Nelson in straight sets (6-0, 6-2). In doubles competition, Lechuga partnered with Alonzo Medina to beat Nelson and Jordan Butler, 8-6. On the season, he is 11-6 (6-3 dual) in singles and 10-6 (5-4 dual) in doubles play. This is the first career weekly honor for the Tlanepantla, Mexico, native.
In the six weeks of the regular season, three Cougars, Lechuga, Erik Nyman and Carlos Lozano, have won the MWC Player of the Week honor.
