NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named Whittni Orton the National Female Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The senior led the Cougars to a first-place finish at the FSU XC Open in Tallahassee, Florida last week, clocking a first-place time of 20:16.8 to win by almost four seconds.
Orton, who finished 17th at the NCAA D1 Cross Country Championships in March, is the first BYU women's athlete to earn National Athlete of the Week honors since Kate Hunter on Oct. 8, 2018.
