Day 1 Recap

FAIRFAX, Calif. – BYU women’s golf competed in the Bay Area Intercollegiate, finishing in an 11th-place tie with Indiana on Tuesday.

The Cougars finished with 905 (307, 299, 299) after three rounds on the par-71 course at the Meadow Club. Lea Garner led the team with 220 (73, 73, 74), including seven birdies. Alexandra White scored 226 (75, 75, 76) with four birdies.

“Lea and Alex shot better than their scores,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “Some of those other girls made it look easy, but they had some awesome shots to the greens, which could be really sloped and tricky here. Even still, they birdied a bunch of holes and so did the other girls.”

Kendra Dalton and Maria Yacaman also shot four birdies apiece and finished with 231 (78, 75, 78) and 233 (76, 76, 81), respectively. Carly Oldroyd shot an impressive five birdies, had the best third round on the team and finished with 234 (84, 77, 73).

The Cougars will host the BYU Entrada Classic next week, March 16 – 17 at the Entrada Golf Course in St. George, Utah.
