Women's golf team in eleventh after second round of Spartan Invitational.
Monterey Calif--The BYU women's golf team is in eleventh place after the second round of the San Jose State University Spartan Invitational in Monterey California.
Wet conditions in Monterey caused the first round of the Spartan Invitational to be postponed on Monday. Tuesday brought a strong field of four top twenty teams and soggy course conditions which contributed heavily to a struggling cougar short game.
"I didn't think we were playing that bad, our approach shots were just inconsistent and several four to five foot putts bounced out of the hole, but we were driving the ball extremely well," BYU head coach Gary Howard said.
Carrie Summerhays struggled with the putter posting a first round score of 76 followed by Nicole Parry's first round score of 80. "We have got to get off to a better start and stop spotting other teams big first round leads," said Coach Howard.
Second round scores showed a definite improvement with Nicole Parry and Adrianne Gibby both shooting 77.
"If the weather permits us to play tomorrow, I am confident that we'll move up in the standings" Howard said.
