COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Four members of the women's golf team were named Academic All-Mountain West for the 2003 season.
BYU led the MWC by having 125 student-athletes named Academic All-MWC out of the 622 honored for the 2003 spring season.
To be eligible for selection student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at BYU while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
Margaret Gibby, Catalina Guacaneme, Natalie Newren and Danielle Von Arnim all represented the women's golf team with academic citations.
Gibby, a sophomore from Scottsdale, Arizona, clenched her first top 10 finish in the OSU/Shanico Invitational shooting six-over-par this year. Gibby was also a season leader for the Cougars.
Guacaneme, a freshman from Armenia, Colombia, joined the Cougar team in January 2003 and made strong contributions as she finished in 13th place individually and was another season leader for the Cougars.
Newren, a sophomore and Utah native, tied for 21st place in the Rainbow Wahine Classic this season and helped contribute to the Cougar's success.
Von Arnim, a freshman from Bogota, Colombia, was one of the hottest Cougars this season as she finished 15-over-par and in 10th place.
These four talented women will add depth to the Cougar golf team in the future.
