LAS -- Kelsey Vines carded an eagle on the first playoff hole to claim the individual title and lead the BYU women's golf team to a second-place finish Wednesday at the UNLV Spring Rebel Classic.

After finishing even with Danielle Kang of Pepperdine after the final hole of regulation, Vines was able to solidify her first-career individual title and fourth-consecutive top-10 finish with an eagle on the first playoff hole. The Cougars' second-place finish is their best since winning the team title at the Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational in September of 2010.

"Kelsey played solid all week," said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts of Vines' performance. "She has been working hard and it had been just a matter of time before she broke through."

By carding a third-round 70 and a tournament total of 206 (-10) Vines tied former Cougar Rachel Newren for the lowest 54-hole total in recent Cougar history dating back to 1990. Newren posted a 10-under 206 at the Ron Moore Invitational in 2006.

Three other Cougars joined Vines in the top-20, led by Maggie Yuan, who moved up nine spots from 21st place with a 3-under 69 in the final round to finish tied for 12th.

Senior Jade Bollinger carded a final-round 76, posting a tournament total of 219 to finish tied for 16th, her fourth top-25 finish of the 2010-11 season. Emily Copier finished the tournament with a 5-over 221 and a tie for 20th place, her second top-20 finish of the spring.

Sophomore Amanda Keith shot a final-round 79, posting a 10-over 226 tournament total to tie for 38th place. Freshman Annika Afoa, who competed as an individual, shot a third-round 78 to finish tied for 79th.

Next up for the Cougars is the annual BYU at Entrada Classic on March 21. BYU looks to improve on a fifth-place finish in 2010. Follow first round action live by visiting www.golfstat.com.
