Parkinson Wins Two Individual Titles at Cat Classic

COLUMBIA -- After winning the all-around title Friday with the second-highest all-around score in Cat Classic history (39.225), BYU All-American Kelly Parkinson won two of the four individual event titles Saturday in the individual finals of the 21st Annual Cat Classic hosted by the University of Missouri.

Parkinson scored a 9.950 to win the vault title and a 9.850 to be crowned the floor exercise champion. She also place third overall on bars with a 9.825 score and finished fourth on beam at 9.725. Missouri's Michelle Huston (9.875) edged BYU's Kim Little (9.850) to win the bars event while her Tiger teammate Lindsay Davis (9.800) out paced BYU's Kari Dye (9.775) to win the beam title.

BYU's Jeni Lopez also placed well, equaling Parkinson on floor at 9.850 but being awarded second place after the tie-breaking averages were computed. Lopez also tied for third on vault (9.700) while teammate Angie Hickman (9.750) placed second. In addition to her second place bars performance, Little also tied for third on vault at 9.700.

The Cougars dominated the floor competition with all four Cougars competing taking the top four spots. After Parkinson and Lopez, BYU's Candace Cosgrave and Kari Dye tied for third with 9.825 routines. BYU's Lindsay Lines rounded out the Cougar scoring in the individual competition with a 9.775 on bars to finish fifth.

BYU won the Cat Classic team title Friday with a 193.600 score. Host Missouri placed second at 192.425, followed by No. 22. Bowling Green at 192.250 and No. 10 Illinois State at 192.125.
