Gymnasts Enjoy a Week Off
Two meets into the season, the Cougar Gymnastics team enjoys a week of rest. BYU opened the season with a victory over Iowa State on January 12, scoring a 194.275 to the Cyclones' 191.475 at home in the Marriott Center.
The Cougars then traveled to Colorado Springto compete in the Rocky Mountain Open against Air Force and the University of Denver, where they took first place with a 194.325. Denver scored a 192.325 and Air Force scored a 191.775 at the meet.
BYU's average score of 194.300 ranks at No. 12 in the nation, and No. 2 in the 12-team North Central Region. They only average less points than Utah, with a 195.900.
All-Around gymnast Kelly Parkinson has had a stellar beginning, scoring a 39.250 in the season-opener and a 39.325 at the Rocky Mountain Open. She ranks at No. 5 in the nation, with an average all-around score of 39.287.
