Lords Places High in Day Two of Cat Classic
COLUMBIA -- In day two of the Cat Classic, Kari Lords tied for 2nd place on the bars along with three other girls with a score of 9.775. She was BYU's top finisher in any event Saturday night.
Six Cougars competed in Saturday's meet in Columbia, Missouri in front of 2,523 fans. Candace Slater, Brogan Jacobsen, Kirsten Pauga and Lindsay Butterfield competed on the floor; Kari Lords and Jacobsen competed on the bars, and Meghan Donahue competed on the vault. No one competed on the beam.
Stellar performances by the cougars were by senior Candace Slater and junior Brogan Jacobsen, both on the floor. Slater and Jacobsen, tied for fourth place with a score of 9.850--a better score than either received on the same event Friday night. Slater received a 9.800 Friday and Jacobsen, a 9.775.
Missouri's Lauren Schwartzman took home the beam title and tied for first on the floor. Jodie Heinicka, also from Missouri, took first on the unevenbars.
In day one of the tournament, the Cougars came in last place with a score of 192.850 due to numerous falls on the bars and the beam. Host University of Missouri took first place with a meet high of 195.875. The University of New Hampshire came in second with a 195.100 and the University of Arizona took third with a 194.575.
Next, the Cougars face the Boise State Broncos for the second time this season Friday, February 14 in Boise.
