LOGAN -- Once again the Cougars have proven why they deserve to be in the top ten by beating rival Utah State 194.125 to 190.600.

Though the Cougars posted their lowest team scores of the season, they still pulled a solid performance. BYU captured the top four spots on vault, bars and beam.

"I was very happy with the way the girls performed," said head coach Brad Cattermole. "The scores were no where near the performances the girls gave."

As always on vault the Cougars did an outstanding job, being led be seniors Marie-Helene Claveau (9.825), Jaime Mabray (9.750), and Kirsten Pauga (9.750). Freshman Dayna Smart placed second with 9.775, continually improving after redshirting last season due to injury.

On bars, sophomore Candace Bauer led the way placing first with 9.775. Bars has always been Bauer's strong point and she demonstrates it at the meets. Freshman Kylee Draper made her second appearance of the season on bars, placing fourth (9.725).

Seniors and all-arounders Mabray and Claveau took the top spots on beam with 9.800 and 9.725. Showing up in all events was sophomore Kacie Capra who made her first all-around appearance and placed third with an overall 38.500.

Floor was the only area where BYU let the Aggies slip by. USU's Alex Martin and Rachel Ropelato placed first and second with 9.825 and 9.800. However Mabray, Smart and the Claveau twins pulled in the next four spots. Mabray finished the night with the top all-around spot (39.100) with Marie-Helene Claveau (38.800) and Capra finishing at second and third.

The Cougars expect only to improve from these season lows and are excited to continue on with the season.

"We did as well as we have done all season," said Cattermole. "We had a good, solid meet and we can't help that it was weirdly scored."

The Cougars will now head south to face Texas Women's University and other universities Saturday, February 5, in Denton, Texas. Following that meet will be the first face off between BYU and Utah on Friday, February 11.
