Albuquerque, N.M. – Eight members of BYU women's tennis finished play at USTA/ITA Regional Championships held at the University of New Mexico on Saturday.

"I'm happy with the way we performed in this tournament," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "We had a lot of good matches and we played some of our best tennis of the fall here which is what we were aiming to do."

Senior Savannah Ware and freshman Samantha Smith reached the semifinal of the doubles draw but fell to UTEP’s Vivian Kulicke and Milou Pietersz, 8-6.

The Cougars also saw success in the doubles draw from two other duos. Senior Mayci Jones and freshman Polina Malykh reached the round of 16 as well as sophomore Taylah Beckman and Kate Cusick.

Jones also reached the round of 16 in singles but fell to Nevada's Claudia Herrero who would reach the championship match.

The Cougars have already competed in the BYU Invitational and the Cal Nike Invite and will continue fall play with their fourth and final scheduled preseason tournament Nov. 3-6 at the Jack Kramer Tennis Invite in Palos Verde, California.
