Reynolds Advances to Finals of BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah (September 27, 2002) BYU's Dominique Reynolds showed her senior leadership Friday as she advanced to the singles final of the BYU Invitational.

Reynolds continued to play well for the Cougars as she defeated Jemima Haywood of Boise State 6-2, 2-6, 10-6 in the quarterfinals and Cassie Kasteler of Utah 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals. She will play the winner of the other semifinal between Renata Stoop and Erin Polowski of BSU on Saturday at noon.

The rest of the team enjoyed success in the back draw of the singles bracket, with everyone winning at least one match.

Head coach Craig Manning said he is encouraged by the play of his team.

"We really showed our depth today," Manning said. "The girls are really playing well in singles."

As for doubles, Manning understands that it is still early in the season. Reynolds and Lu Oswald played the No. 1 spot and were able to get to the semifinals before losing to Alisha Ayling and Stoop of BSU 8-2.

"We have all new doubles teams," he said. "It is going to be tough for a while. We just need to get into match play and get some doubles experience."

The final day of the BYU Invitational begins Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the BYU outdoor tennis courts.
