Bad WeatherAffects Colorado Invitational
BOULDER, Colo. (October 3, 2002) ? Rainstorms and cold weather put a damper on the first day of the Colorado Invitational Thursday. Only eight singles matches were played and a handful of doubles matches.
Only four Cougars were able to play in singles and only one doubles team played on Thursday. BYU's Dominique Reynolds continued her tough play by defeating Jenny Trettin of Denver 6-4, 6-3. Teammate Rebecca Pike fought back after losing the first set to beat Stephanie Ginsburg of Denver 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the first round.
The only other Cougars to play Thursday were Lindsay Ferrell and Hadley Macfarlane, who both lost in the first round.
In doubles, Nicole Schneider and Tara Porter teamed up but they were unable to beat Tjasa Suvak and Ruiz-Fabrega of New Mexico, losing 8-1.
Because of the inclement weather, the first day of competition was moved to Meadowcreek Tennis Courts in Lakewood, Colo. Friday's and Saturday's matches will be played at the Kittredge Tennis Courts on the campus of the University of Colorado.
Play continues Friday with singles matches starting at 9:30 a.m.
