Lu Oswald Advances to Finals of Colorado Invitational
BOULDER, Colo. (October 4, 2002) ? Senior Lu Oswald continued to play well Friday by defeating the No. 100 ranked player in the nation, Tjasa Suvak of New Mexico, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (9) in the semifinals of the Colorado Invitational. She will face Dominique Lemperle of the University of Colorado in the finals on Saturday.
Head Coach Craig Manning said he is very pleased with the play of his senior this fall.
"Lu (Oswald) is really playing well right now," Manning said. "She had a big win today over a big time opponent. It is tough to lose the first set and come back to win, so I was very proud of her today."
BYU's Dominique Reynolds also played well Friday in the Invitational, but was unable to advance past the semifinals. She lost to Lemperle of CU in a tough three set match that ended 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (9).
"Dominique (Reynolds) played good today," Manning said. "She lost her semifinal match in a third set tiebreaker that went down to the wire. But she still continues to play well."
Other Cougars played well with Rebecca Pike, Elizaveta Khoudoiarova, Nicole Schneider, Tara Porter and Hadley Macfarlane winning in their respective flights.
Play in the Colorado Invitational will resume Saturday morning at 9:30 p.m.
