Team Spends Week in Hawaii Training
PROVO -- The BYU women's tennis team recently returned home from spending a week in Oahu, Hawaii preparing for the upcoming season. The team spent the first week of January working out and training with the BYU-Hawaii women's team.
The tennis team has been to Hawaii to train in the past, but this was the first time fourth-year head coach Craig Manning has taken his team. He said playing with the Seasiders of BYU-H was very productive and helpful.
"Training and playing in Hawaii was a great experience for all the girls," Manning said. "After Christmas, everyone comes back a little rusty. The girls were able to work out some things and I think they are all really hitting the ball well now."
As last years NCAA division II national champions, the Seasiders provided some stiff competition for the Cougars as they prepare to open up the new season at the end of January.
Coach Manning said everyone on the team came back from Hawaii healthy and ready to start playing regular season matches. They will continue to practice for the next two weeks before traveling to Kansas to take on Kansas and Kansas State Jan. 24 and 25.
