COLORADO SPRINGS -- The Mountain West Conference named two BYU women tennis players to the Academic All-Conference team for the 2003 season.
BYU had the highest number of student-athletes receiving academic accolades with 125 out of the 622 honors given to athletes in the conference.
Seniors Leeza Klempner and Dominique Reynolds were named to the Academic All-Mountain West for their academic and athletic performance during the 2003 season.
To be eligible for selection student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
Klempner, a 5-7 senior from Moscow, Russia, played the first half of the 2003 season at the No. 2 position and the second half at No. 1. She was also named to the 2002-03 MWC Women's Tennis All-Conference Doubles Team with Reynolds and ended the season with an 11-16 record. Klempner is majoring in computer science.
Reynolds, a 5-5 senior from Mexico City, Mexico, played the first half of the season at the No. 1 spot and the second half at No. 2 and compiled an overall record of 18-16. She also received honors for MWC Women's Tennis All-Conference Singles Team for her third consecutive year and was named to the All-MWC Doubles Team for her second year. Reynolds is majoring in geography.
Both Reynolds and Klempner ended their careers at BYU with notable singles and doubles records for their senior seasons. They teamed up together in doubles and played all year at the No.1 spot. Together, they combined for an overall record for 13-10 and was named to the MWC All-Conference Doubles Team.
