Exhibition against UT Tyler set for Friday

PROVO, Utah – With the college basketball season set to tipoff next week, BYU men’s basketball will host UT Tyler in an exhibition contest Friday at 7 p.m. MDT in the Marriott Center.

Friday’s game will be televised on BYUtv and broadcast on the BYU Sports Network, the BYU Cougars app and KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM/1160 AM. Dave McCann and Blaine Fowler will have the call on BYUtv while Greg Wrubell and Mark Durrant will call the action on the radio.

BYU is entering its first season under head coach Mark Pope. Pope comes to BYU after a successful four-year run at Utah Valley, where he led the Wolverines to back-to-back 20-win seasons – including a program-record 25 in 2018-19 – and three-straight trips to the postseason.

The Cougar roster is highlighted by three players who have earned first-team all-conference honors, including Yoeli Childs (All-WCC First Team in 2018 and 2019), TJ Haws (All-WCC First Team in 2017, Second Team in 2019) and Jake Toolson (WAC Player of the Year and All-WAC First Team in 2019). UT Tyler, an NCAA Division II institution in the Lone Star Conference, plays an exhibition at Utah on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The Patriots, coached by Louis Wilson, finished the 2018-19 season with an 8-17 record. UT Tyler returns seven of the top nine scorers from last season, including Darius Alford, who posted 18.6 points and 2.1 steals per game as a freshman in 2018-19.
