1980 BYU Hall of Fame
In high school, John Fairchild led his team to 25 wins in a row and the league, county, and Southern California championships during his senior year. He was named to the All-League, All-Southern California, and All-CIF teams. He played for one year at Pepperdine College, then transferred to Palomar Junior College All-American selection, setting new school scoring records.
At BYU he set new scoring and rebounding records during his junior year and was named to the All-Conference team. He was also an All-American honorable mention selection. During his senior year in 1965 he was again named to the All-Conference team, and was a third-team All-American. He was named the Most Valuable Player in the WAC, and was invited to play in the East-West College All-Star game.
During his two years at BYU he set six new scoring and rebounding records, led the team to 16 team records, and finished with an average of more than 20 points a game.
