1976 BYU Hall of Fame
Floyd Millet was born in Mesa, Arizona, in 1911. He graduated from BYU in 1934 and received his master’s degree from the University of Southern California in 1939. While a student at BYU he earned nine varsity letters in football, basketball, and track. He was named All-Conference in basketball and football and set an AAU record in the broad jump.
In his senior year Floyd was given the J. Edwin Stein Award as the outstanding student athlete on campus. He received the Dale Rex Memorial Award in 1948 for his contribution to amateur athletics in Utah.
He began his coaching career in 1934 at Davis High School coaching the football, baseball, and basketball teams. In 1937 he returned to BYU where he coached football, basketball, and track and field. His basketball team won the conference title in 1948 and was the first BYU team to play in Madison Square Garden. In 1963 Floyd was named BYU's athletic director, a position he filled for seven years.
On August 13, 1934, Floyd married Vera Jackson. All of their children—three boys and a girl—have graduated from BYU.
