Born September 1976 in Provo ... parents are Frank and Maxine Cooper ... served an LDS Church mission to Portugal .... likes golf and tennis ... grandfather played for BYU (1928-31) ... recruited among others by Stanford, Utah, Utah State, Penn State, Marquette and several Ivy League schools ... majoring in Portuguese with a Spanish minor.

Before BYU

Lettered four times in basketball, three times in golf and twice in tennis ... played two years at Mountain View High in Orem and his senior season at Timpview High in Provo ... at Timpview he averaged 16.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and shot 50.5 percent from the field ... named all-state by the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune ... honorable mention All-USA Today ... McDonald's All-America nominee ... was a top 50 pick for Athlon Magazine and the Blue Chip Magazine guards ... unanimous selection to All-Region Eight .... selected to the Utah High School Coaches All-Star Team ... made many all-tournament teams, including the 1994 Nike Las Vegas Easter Classic ... Was 8-9 in free throws vs. Cal State Northridge ... had eight rebounds to lead team vs. Texas Tech ... 16 points, nine rebounds in 19 minutes vs. Morgan State ... had eight rebounds at Utah ... scored 18 points off the bench against Fresno St. in Provo ... second effort led to 10 second-half points at New Mexico, including a pair of three-point plays ... was 3-4 in treys in the second half vs. UTEP in Provo ... scored 11 points in second half at Colorado State, including a pair of treys ... had nine rebounds at Fresno State ... hit three treys, was fouled on his fourth attempt and hit all three free throws against Colorado State at the WAC Tournament in Albuquerque.
