(Woodbridge HS): Burgess averaged 19 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocked shots and 3 assists as a senior at Woodbridge High School in Irvine, Calif., to earn All-California First Team honors ... a McDonald's All-America nominee ... was on the All-California Third Team as a junior when he averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocked shots and 3 assists ... was first-team All-Orange County as a senior and All-CIF First Team as a junior and senior ... was All-CIF Second Team as a sophomore, when he averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots ... a four-year letterwinner, Burgess is one of just three players to ever play on the varsity team as a freshman at Woodbridge when he averaged 5 points, 5 rebounds and 1 blocked shot on his way to being named the team's Most Improved Player and an honorable mention All-City (Irvine) Team selection ... was the team MVP his final three seasons and was the City and Sea View League MVP as both a junior and senior ... was the only high school player to compete on the 19-Under USA Basketball World Championships Team that finished 7-1, losing only to eventual champion Australia, and won the 2003 Global Games in Dallas with a 5-0 record ... was selected to the 18-Under USA Albert Schweitzer Team after his senior season for a tournament held in Germany.

Summary

David Burgess is a 6-foot-10, 250-pound center who was considered one of the best big men in the country coming out of high school. He is a strong low-post player and aggressive rebounder. He was granted a medical redshirt last season after appearing in only two games before being sidelined by injury. After his junior year in high school, he was the only high school player to compete on the 19-Under USA Basketball World Championships Team that finished 7-1, losing only to eventual champion Australia, and won the 2003 Global Games in Dallas with a 5-0 record. He was selected to the 18-Under USA Albert Schweitzer Team after his senior season for a tournament held in Germany.
