2003 BYU Hall of Fame

Over her four-year career at BYU, Lewis helped lead the women’s volleyball team to heights it had never before reached. During her last three years at BYU, Lewis led the Cougars to an 84-12 record, two WAC Championships and their first NCAA Final Four appearance.

Before coming to BYU, she was the captain of the 1989 and 1990 National Junior Olympic Champion Nevada Gold Team. She also helped lead Bonanza High to the 1987 Nevada State Championship and was selected first-team high school All-American by Volleyball Monthly.

Lewis played in 13 games as a freshman and continued to excel as a sophomore. That year she was named WAC Player of the Week for Oct. 14-19. She was also named Academic All-WAC, Cougar Club Academic Athlete, All-WAC second team and AVCA first team All-West. She led the Cougars in hitting percentage (.268) and aces (36), was second in kills (411) and was third in digs (339).

As a junior, Lewis continued to dominate, being named All-WAC first team, All-America second team by AVCA and honorable mention All-America by Volleyball Monthly. She was named AVCA first team All-West, Academic All-WAC and a Cougar Club Academic Athlete for the second year in a row. She also led BYU in hitting percentage again.

That season, Lewis led the Cougars to a 29-4 record, with all four losses coming against teams that made the Final Four.

As a senior, Lewis helped BYU to its first-ever Final Four appearance, the first by any WAC school. At the Final Four honors banquet, she was selected to speak on behalf of the All-Americans. Although BYU lost to Penn State, the season was one of the best in BYU women’s volleyball history.

Lewis won WAC Player of the Year honors that year, and was named All-WAC first team and All-America first team by the AVCA and Volleyball Monthly. She was also named AVCA first team for the third year in a row. She finished the season third in kills per game (3.94), fifth in career kills (1185) and seventh in career block assists (272).

After her career at BYU, she married Chad Lewis, the All-Pro tight end who won All-America honors as a Cougar. The couple has seven children: Emily, Sarah, Jake, Jeff, Max, and twins Tanner, and Todd.

Lewis taught math at American fork High School for two years and performed charitable work with her husband in Utah and Philadelphia for organizations including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Eagles Fly for Leukemia, and the Eagle Youth Partnership.
