OGDEN, Utah – Five BYU athletes set new personal records Wednesday and Thursday at the Weber State Twilight Meet.

“This meet was a nice opportunity for many of our student-athletes to continue to get ready for the upcoming regional meet,” BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. “A number of our sprinters and throwers actually have two meets this week. At the conclusion of the Weber State Twilight, many of them will be heading to Los Angeles for the Occidental meet on Saturday.”

Tatenda Tsumba set a new personal-best in the 200 meters with a time of 20.84. He currently sits well within a top-48 West Region ranking needed to qualify for regionals at No. 31. Michael Abbott also picked up a new PR in the event, coming in at 21.87.

Ramarco Thompson ran the fastest 400-meter time of his life at 48.11. He won his heat and finished third overall in the event.

Trevor Fuhriman rounded out the men’s athletes achieving new PR’s. He had a lifetime best time of 1:51.41 in the 800 meters, and with the altitude conversion his time was 1:50.83. That time currently has him just outside of a regional-qualifying mark at No. 72 in the West Region.

On the women’s side, Kassie Nagel took first overall in the shot put with a new PR of 14.94 meters. With that mark, she also sits just outside of a regional mark at No. 56 in the West.

Chloe Richardson won the triple jump with a mark of 12.16 meters, and she currently holds the No. 54 ranking in the West.

“We didn’t have a ton of athletes competing, but we had some great conditions and I thought we had a number of solid performances,” Eyestone said.

PROVO, Utah – A rare midweek meet this Wednesday and Thursday at the Weber State Twilight in Ogden, Utah, opens up a critical month of May for BYU track and field.

“This is another great opportunity for athletes who haven’t gotten a regional mark yet to take another try at it,” BYU track and field head coach Ed Eyestone said. “For many of them, this is the second to last chance of the season to hit a mark that will get them into the regional meet. Most of those who have already qualified will be sitting this meet out. It’s crunch time.”

The men’s 4x100-meter relay team will try to punch its ticket to Lawrence, Kansas, with a strong performance. It currently sits just outside the top-48 in the West Region. Trevor Fuhriman needs to improve his 800-meter time by a couple of seconds to secure a spot.

Tatenda Tsumba has already qualified in both the 100 and 200 meters, but he will make an appearance in Ogden. He will also run one of the legs on the 4x100 team.

For the women, Diamond Thomas will be running the 100 and 200 meters in an effort to qualify for regionals. Thomas would have qualified last week, but the excessive wind speeds during her events made her times invalid by the NCAA. She will also run on the women’s 4x100-meter relay team.

Anginae Monteverde, Nicole Naatjes and Sierra Hansen have each qualified previously for regionals and will be in competition this week. Kylee Trageser sits just outside the top-48 and will attempt to join her fellow vaulters with a qualifying mark this week.
