Senior center Jennifer Hamson led all players with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the annual blue/white scrimmage held by the BYU women’s basketball team on Tuesday. The Cougar women played one 20-minute half followed by two 12-minute periods.

Senior Kim Beeston added 14 points, five boards and two steals. Junior Xojian Harry contributed 13 points, while sophomore guard Lexi Eaton put up 11 points and grabbed three rebounds.

“We saw some good things today and some things that we need to still work on,” said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. “It’s good to know that we have a lot of depth but we need to learn to play as a team.”

Freshman guard Cassie Broadhead got the white team on the board first with a layup five minutes into the first 20-minute half.  A minute later, senior center Jennifer Hamson would tie up the score with a two-pointer of her own.  The bucket sparked a run by the blue team, who took a 14-6 lead midway through the half. The white team reached double digits with just over five minutes remaining on back-to-back buckets from junior Xojian Harry. The half ended with the blue team leading 32-22.

The team would play two additional 12-minute halves before finishing out the evening. In the second 12-minute period, the white team came out on top 19-17 in a closely contested battle. The third half ended with the white team in front once again, 30-22.

Next week, the Cougars host two exhibition games. Colorado Mesa University visits the Marriott Center on Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. MDT. The following day, in-state foe Westminster College comes to Provo in a 3 p.m. MDT, tipoff. Both contests are free to the public.

The 2013-14 women's basketball season officially gets underway on Friday, Nov. 8, when the team hosts first time opponent South Dakota State in a 3 p.m. MDT tip. The Jackrabbits participated in last season’s NCAA tournament.
