Jill Adams and Lori Cuff led the Cougar team with 16 points a piece to give the BYU women's basketball team its eighth win of the season, an 83-56 victory over Montana State, Monday.
Freshman Erin Thorn also scored in double figures, picking up 14 points and five rebounds. Another freshman, Jennifer Leitner came off the bench to give the Cougars a strong rebounding effort with her eight on the night. Teammates Adams and Cuff were equally successful in the rebounding category with seven and six respectively. BYU out rebounded Montana State 50 to 28.
"We were able to get off to a good jump start, taking a quick 10 point lead and we were able to sustain the entire game," said head coach Trent Shippen. "Lori Cuff had a big game inside, we did a good job executing and rebounding and everyone got a lot of minutes."
BYU's quick scoring effort in the game gave them a comfortable 15 point 37-22 advantage at the break, which extended into the second half with the visiting team having as much as a 31 point lead at times.
The Cougar defense kept Montana State out of the game, holding them to 29 percent shooting from the field and 22 percent from three-point range. BYU shot 50 percent from the field and the three-point arc (10-20) and 81 percent from the free-throw line.
BYU (8-3) will take a short break for the holidays and returns to hoops action at home on December 29 against Southern Utah, with a 7 p.m. tip off at the Marriott Center.
