Cougars Fall By One In Double Overtime

Image

OGDEN -- The BYU women's basketball team traveled north to take on the Weber State Wildcats but fell by one point in double overtime, Wednesday.

"We did a good job of rebounding," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. "It was one of the good thing we did, especially in the second half."

BYU finished with 47 rebounds to Weber State's 31 and five blocks to Weber State's zero.

The Cougars didn't shoot their best throughout the game but they made their baskets when it counted. In overtime, the Cougars made all of their baskets and free-throws. Jazmine Foreman ended with 11 points, nine of those coming in overtime. However, in double overtime, the Cougars couldn't get the ball in the hoop in the last three seconds.

Mindy Nielson finished the game leading all players the team with 18 points, a new season-high, and six rebounds. Coriann Wood led with 11 rebounds.

Four players finished in double-figures for the Cougars, the fourth time for that to happen this season.

A first half back-and-forth match kept the Cougars behind the Wildcats but still in the game. The Cougars finished the first half down 17-22.

"We did a better job of executing our game plan in the second half as well," Judkins said.

The second half started with a 5-0 run from BYU and would stay close throughout the second half but never could get ahead. They never fell behind by more than six points. The second half ended after Kristen Riley put up a huge 3-pointer to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The first overtime ended after a layup from Foreman put the Cougars up with 30 seconds to play. A field goal from the Wildcats put the game into doubleovertime with eight seconds to play.

Up next for BYU is a road trip down to Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at 5 p.m. PT.
