CHICAGO -- On the road against the University of Chicago-Illinois, the BYU women's basketball team made a 19-point comeback and Coriann Fraughton posted her first double-double of the season, but the Cougars couldn't quite catch the Flames in a 56-59 loss.
Fraughton (Wood) led the Cougars with 17 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the 2010 season, third of her career, while going 7-for-14 from the field.
"It was disappointing how we played in the first half tonight because we really came out a bit flat," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. "We gave it a good fight, however, at the end but couldn't quite get it done. I'm really glad that my team didn't quit and kept fighting. Also, Coriann had a nice game tonight for us."
After an early 5-19 deficit in the first half, the Cougars played a tough and physical battle but couldn't ever come back for the victory. BYU shot 33 percent from the field and 27 percent from behind the arc on the night.
The first half ended with BYU down by 12. Beginning the second half, the Flames took an even bigger lead with the Cougars not able to catch up as they went down by 19.
The Cougars went on a 20-4 run in the last four minutes of play to bring them within three points before ending the game with the Flames keeping possession in the last few seconds to hold off the BYU comeback.
Jasmine Bailey and Shameia Green recorded double-figure for the Flames with 17 and 12 points, respectively.
BYU (0-2) returns home for two games hosting the University of Washington (1-0), Sat. Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. The game is free of charge. Instate rival Utah State comes to the Marriott Center on Tues. Nov. 23 at 4 p.m.
With four returning starters and after two exhibition victories the Cougar women’s basketball team begins 2010-11 competition at No. 5/6 Duke on Sat., Nov. 13. Tip off is 7 p.m., ET.
