FORT WORTH -- After losing to TCU at home on Oct. 10, the BYU women’s volleyball team (12-10, 6-4 MWC) fell to TCU (21-5, 10-2 MWC) again, this time on the road 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-18).
"TCU is a great team who came ready to play," said BYU head coach Shay Goulding. "We, unfortunately, did not come ready to play. We will continue to take the season match-by-match and improve on our weaknesses."
Senior rightside hitter Kayla Walker led the Cougars in kills with eight, also tallying eight digs. Transfer Camilla Phillips chalked up seven kills hitting at .333 while Christina Measom tallied five blocks. Libero Melissa Lake Wright tallied a season-high 20 digs, also tying her career-high.
Walker and Measom had a block to start off the first set while TCU went on a 7-0 run with two kills from Kourtney Edwards. BYU called a timeout at 6-1, and was able to scrounge up some points but the closest it got was 4-8.
With Irene Hester back to serve for the Horned Frogs, TCU went on a 5-0 run ending with a service error at 16-7. TCU went on to win the set on a 4-0 run with a kill from Hester, a service ace from Megan Munce and two BYU attack errors 15-12.
The second set began with traded service error and attack errors on both teams until Munce of TCU tallied the first kill at 4-2, TCU lead. Walker struck back with a kill of her own, followed by a TCU 3-0 run, ending at 7-4 with Nicole Warner and Camilla Phillips scoring the next two points. BYU later posted a 3-0 run to knot the score at eight.
With back-and-forth play the score was also tied at nine, 10, 11, 13 and 14 until TCU tallied a 4-0 run with three kills from Hester and one from Munce to give the Horned Frogs a 17-14 lead. Two kills from Walker, a service error and a kill from Warner were the last points the Cougars scored in the second set with TCU coming out on top again 15-18.
In the third set BYU lost the match by posting eight attack errors to give TCU the win 15-18. The score was close to start off the set, tying the score seven different times, until the Horned Frogs jumped out to a 15-11 lead after a 5-0 run. Casey Speredon Thurston tallied three kills in between TCU points, but it wasn’t enough to catch up with the Horned Frogs. After taking a BYU timeout at 22-15, Nicole Warner posted a kill, but after a TCU block and two kills from Edwards, the Horned Frogs grabbed their 11th Mountain West Conference win of the season.
Edwards led the Horned Frogs in kills with 13, hitting at .400 with one solo block while her team hit at .273 to the Cougars’ .051.
The Cougars will continue on the road to conference foe New Mexico Saturday at 7 p.m. MT.

PROVO -- After winning two home matches against Utah Valley and UNLV last week, the BYU women’s volleyball (12-10, 6-4) team hits the road to take on TCU on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT and New Mexico on Saturday at 7 p.m. MT in vital Mountain West Conference matches.
“We are playing one game at a time,” said BYU head coach Shay Goulding. “TCU is on a roll and feeling good about themselves. They are going to have their crowd behind them, but they are going to see a completely different team in us than they saw last time.”
The Cougars played TCU at home on Oct. 10, losing in three, their second conference loss of the season. The Horned Frogs boast a 21-5 overall record and a 10-2 record in the MWC.
BYU played the Lobos at home on Thursday, Oct. 8, sweeping UNM in three. New Mexico has since earned a 16-8, 7-5 MWC record.
“New Mexico also has a good crowd that will be behind them, but if we play them like we did last time, we’ll come out on top,” said Goulding.
The last time out, BYU defended the Smith Fieldhouse to finish off the month of October with two 3-1 victories.
On Tuesday the Cougars took on Utah Valley University with Christie Carpenter leading the way with 12 kills while Camilla Phillips tallied career highs in both kills (10) and blocks (seven). Melissa Lake Wright tallied 16 digs in the libero position and setter Kiana Rogers had her eighth double-double of the season with 38 assists and 11 digs.
On Thursday the Cougars welcomed the UNLV Rebels to the court, donning pink uniforms in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Kayla Walker recorded 13 kills and added 10 digs, giving her six double-doubles on the season. Casey Speredon-Thurston and Christina Measom added nine kills apiece, while Melissa Lake-Wright’s 18 digs marked her fourth-straight match in double-digits. Freshman Nicole Warner also boasted a .857 hitting percentage off of six kills and no errors.
The match against TCU will be broadcast LIVE on The Mtn. at 7 p.m. CT and live stats are available for both matches via GameTracker.
