PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball coach Dave Rose announced today that center Ian Harward will not continue his basketball career due to injury. Harward will continue his studies at BYU.

Harward suffered a back injury in the summer of 2012 and dealt with the injury throughout the 2012-13 season. Lingering issues from the injury will prevent him from continuing his basketball career.

"We are sorry to lose Ian to injury," Rose said. "He is a fantastic teammate and one of the hardest workers we have had in our program. He will be missed in the locker room and on the floor. We wish him and his wife Sarah the very best."

A native of Orem, Utah, Harward played the last two seasons for BYU, including a redshirt season in 2011-12. In 2012-13, he played in 22 games and totaled 22 points, 21 rebounds, two blocks and three steals. Harward posted season highs of seven points vs. Notre Dame and five rebounds vs. Virginia Tech.

"I'm disappointed that my basketball career is ending," Harward said. "I've loved being a part of this program and playing with my teammates. They're a great group of guys and I'll miss being a part of that. My wife and I are excited to complete our education here at BYU and to move on to the next stage in life."

Prior to BYU, Harward prepped at Orem High School and played for the Utah Pump ‘N Run AAU team. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Antonio, Texas, from 2009 to 2011.
