QUOTES
Guard Davin Guinn
“I don’t think we executed the game plan like we wanted to. We put a lot of practice and effort into it but it just didn’t come out how we wanted.”
“You’ve got to move on to the next game. If you dwell on the past it is going to be difficult to focus on what you’ve got to accomplish ahead of you. We’ve just got to learn from this and keep our heads up and be ready for the game.”
Head coach Dave Rose
“I just think that their physical presence caused us to get us outside of ourselves. We started the game well and then we have a couple of bad possessions where we are just kind of lackadaisical with the ball. Then [Santa Clara] hit a few shots and locked us up. We probably went 13 or 14 positions where turned the ball over 10 or 11 times where we didn’t even get a shot at the basket. They just physically kind of manhandled us and wouldn’t allow us to get where we want to get.”
“We just kind of yield and lose our composure. That’s where the game really kind of turned. We kind of turned them on and they hit a couple of threes. That’s what they do. This is a team that can spread you out and really shoot them.”
“The bottom line is you’ve got to be able to tackle [road games]. You’ve got to be able to hit it head on. Individual guys have to keep their composure in a team setting. We are having a hard time with that at times. Tonight was one of those times.”
“A lot of these shots we took tonight were really good shots. Some of them were a little bit rushed. It’s going to be hard to beat teams when you turn the ball over 18 times in a slow-paced game. Eighteen doesn’t seem like a ridiculous number but when you consider the amount of possessions when you play Santa Clara you have to multiply that by two or three as far as a normal possession game is concerned.”
