Mika headed to NBA Draft Combine
NEW YORK – The National Basketball Association announced today that BYU forward Eric Mika is among the 67 players expected to attend the 2017 NBA Draft Combine powered by Under Armour.
The NBA Draft Combine, which features NBA hopefuls participating in five-on-five games and strength and agility drills, will be held at Quest Multisport in Chicago on Thursday, May 11, and Friday, May 12.
As a sophomore in 2016-17, Mika led the Cougars to a 22-12 record and an at-large bid to the National Invitational Tournament. The 6-foot-10 forward was a first-team All-West Coast Conference player and a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American. Mika was also named the USBWA District VIII Player of the Year and earned a spot on the NABC All-District 9 Team.
Mika averaged 20.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game, scored in double figures in all 34 games and recorded 17 double-doubles. His best game of the season came on the biggest stage when BYU played at No. 1 Gonzaga in the regular season finale. The Alpine, Utah, native led the Cougars to a 79-71 upset win over the Bulldogs while totaling 29 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks.
During the 2016-17 campaign, Mika made his mark on the BYU single season record book. He set the record for offensive rebounds (104), was fourth in blocks (63) and 12th in total rebounds (312). Mika also shot the second-most free throws (295) in a season in program history and had the third most makes (225).
Mika announced he was declaring for the 2017 NBA Draft on March 22. He has maintained his college eligibility by not hiring an agent. Early-entry players who have not hired an agent have until May 24 to decide whether to withdraw from or remain in the 2017 NBA Draft.
