Childs and Haws named NABC All-District
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced today that BYU’s Yoeli Childs and TJ Haws have been named to the 2018-19 NABC Division I All-District 9 Team. Childs earned first-team honors while Haws was named to the second team.
The NABC All-District teams are selected and voted on by NCAA Division I member coaches. Childs is a repeat first-team honoree while this is Haws’ first all-district nod.
In addition to honors from the NABC, Childs earned a spot on the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District First Team. He was also an All-West Coast Conference First Team selection.
Childs posted averages of 21.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 block per game in 2018-19. He had season highs of 31 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, four blocks and five steals.
A junior from South Jordan, Utah, Childs has posted 17 double-doubles and 18 20-point games. He had a string of three-straight 31-point games against Weber State, Utah State and Utah, becoming the first Cougar to record such a streak since Jimmer Fredette in 2011.
Haws, from Alpine, Utah, averaged 17.8 points, 5.1 assists and 1.2 steals while hitting 57 3-pointers and shooting 86.8 percent from the free-throw line. He scored 20-plus points 12 times and dished out five-plus assists 18 times. The junior guard had season highs of 35 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
In addition to earning all-district honors from the NABC, Haws was named to the All-WCC Second Team, the WCC All-Academic Team and the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 First Team.
