Five Cougars Earn Academic All-MWC Honors
Mountain West Conference Announces 2001-02 Men's Basketball Academic Honorees
COLORADO SPRINGS -- Five BYU student-athletes today were named by the Mountain West Conference to the 2001-02 Academic All-Conference team for men's basketball.
BYU honorees included seniors Eric Nielsen and Matt Montague, sophomore Jon Carlisle, and freshmen Jared Jensen and Jimmy Balderson. Nielsen and Montague were two of seven repeat selections to the team.
BYU and Utah each had a league-high five student-athletes named to the team. UNLV had three honorees and San Diego State placed two members on the list, while Colorado State, New Mexico and Wyoming each had one. A three-year high of 18
student-athletes earned MWC academic honors in 2001-02.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.
