BYU to Play Memphis Wednesday on ESPN2
PROVO -- Coming off its home NIT victory over UC Irvine, the BYU men's basketball team (18-11) travels to face the Memphis Tigers (23-9) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. CST (5:30 p.m. MST) in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.
The game will be televised on ESPN2. KSL Newsradio will broadcast the game on the Cougar Sports Network, beginning with an hour pregame show, which can also be heard on the Internet at www.KSL.com. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-888-867-8636. BYU fans should request tickets in section 138.
The Cougars defeated the Tigers in overtime, 73-67, in the last meeting between the two schools at the 1992 Maui Invitational. Memphis holds a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series.
The Tigers won Conference USA's National Division this year with a 12-4 record and boast one of the top young players in the country in C-USA Freshman of the Year Dajuan Wagner (21.0 ppg). The 6-foot-3 freshman was named honorable mention AP All-American.
BYU enters the contest with a 12-6 NIT record in nine appearances, including two titles (1951-1966). The Cougars are 3-1 under Steve Cleveland in the NIT and advanced to the quarterfinals in their last NIT appearance in 2000.
