Opunui Out with Thumb Injury

PROVO -- BYU freshman Shawn Opunui will be out approximately six weeks with torn ligaments in his left thumb, it was determined today. The 5-11 point guard reinjured his thumb Saturday in BYU's win over the Idaho Vandals after initially hurting the thumb at Utah State on Dec. 1.

Opunui will be in a hard cast for four weeks and in a splint two weeks. He has played in four games overall this year, backing up senior Matt Montague. Opunui was averaging 1.5 points and 2.8 assists in his four appearances.
