Cougars Knock the Spots Off Leopards in Final Exhibition Game
PROVO (Nov. 10, 2001) The Cougars put Tuesday's exhibition loss behind them and blew the London Leopards off the Marriott Center floor tonight with a 90-70 win.
BYU launched a three-point barrage on London, hitting eight of 15 shots from behind the arc on the night for 24 of the team's 90 points.
The Cougars went into the locker at half leading by only two points but took it to the Leopards in the second half to pull away for the 20-point victory.
"The first half was pretty sloppy but I thought we did a much better job on both ends of the floor in the second half," head coach Steve Cleveland said. "We boxed out better and were more agressive on the defensive boards and we were able to penetrate more in the second half on offense."
Both teams spent a lot of time at the charity stripe in the game, with the teams combining for 78 free throws on the night. BYU finished the game 26-37 and the Leopards ended up 27-42 from the line.
Mark Bigelow was the leading scorer for the Cougars, pouring in 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and going 5-6 on the line. He was 2-3 from downtown on the night. Daniel Bobik had 15 points, Travis Hansen scored 15, Matt Montague finished with 12 and Jared Jensen contributed 10 to round out the BYU scorers in double digits for the game.
The top rebounder on the night for BYU was Hansen, who finished with seven rebounds. Jared Jensen also did well on the glass, cleaning up six boards for the game.
London's Ricola Alderson was ejected from the game with 6:17 left in the second half after receiving two straight technical fouls.
