Schroyer Accepts Assistant Position at Wyoming
PROVO -- BYU Head Basketball Coach Steve Cleveland announced today that assistant coach Heath Schroyer has accepted a position as assistant coach at the University of Wyoming.
"One of the responsibilities of being a head coach is to prepare your staff for professional growth opportunities," Cleveland said. "Heath felt this position would provide him with additional and diverse recruiting and coaching opportunities that would help prepare him to be a head coach. He has my complete support and endorsement in this endeavor."
Schroyer coached the past four seasons at BYU under Cleveland, serving in various capacities, most notably as the team's defensive coordinator. Schroyer came to BYU in 1997 from Fresno City College where he also coached on Cleveland's staff.
"Heath and I have been together six years, both at BYU and at Fresno City College," Cleveland said. "He has an excellent understanding of the system I wanted taught and I appreciated his loyalty and commitment to that system and to our program. It is always difficult to see good coaches and good friends move on but that will always be part of this business. Heath is one of the outstanding young coaches in the country and he will be an asset to an already excellent program at Wyoming."
A Walkersville, Md., native, Schroyer, 29, prepped at DeMatha High School where he played for legendary coach Morgan Wooten. Schroyer was an all-league player and captained a final four team at Kings River Community College in Reedley, Calif., before playing two years at Armstrong State in Savannah, Ga., graduating with a degree in Liberal Studies. He earned a Masters degree in Education in 1997 from National University in Fresno, Calif. Schroyer began his coaching career at Kings River Community College, where he served as an assistant for two years before joining Cleveland's staff at Fresno City College in 1996.
