BYU Defeats EA Sports in Final Exhibition Game of Season

PROVO -- In BYU's final exhibition game of the season Thursday night, senior Mekeli Wesley and freshman Daniel Bobik led the Cougars to a 71-59 victory over EA Sports at the Marriott Center.

Wesley had 25 points to lead all scorers while Bobik chipped in 13. Both Wesley and Bobik had three three-pointers, and six and five rebounds, respectively. Guard Matt Montague scored nine points, pulled down six rebounds and dished out six assists.

EA Sports, a team made up of ex-college players, came within six points early in the second half, but that was as close as they would get, althugh the Cougars only outscored thier opponents 34-33 in the second half. BYU held as much as a 15-point lead in the first half and went into halftime with a 37-26 lead. EA Sports was led by Rashad Tucker and Steve Carney who scored 17 and 16 points, respectively.

As a team, the Cougars shot 39.3 percent from the field, including 50 percent from the three-point line while holding their opponent to 39.2 percent shooting from the field, including 26.7 percent from the three-point line. BYU was 7-14 from behind the arc for the game and shot 76.2 percent from the free throw line.

Also contributing for BYU was Eric Nielson with seven points, Derek Dawes with six, and Nathan Cooper and Jacob Chrisman four each.

BYU will open regular season play against Elon College Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Marriott Center.
