Todd Christensen Transfers to Westminster College

PROVO -- Reserve basketball guard Todd Christensen has decided to transfer from BYU to play his senior season at Westminster College in Salt Lake City.

Christensen, a Salt Lake City native and Highland High graduate, played both guard positions during his three years at BYU. He played in 28 games as a freshman in 1995-96, averaging 4.6 points in 15 minutes off the bench for coach Roger Reid. After serving an LDS Church mission to Chile, Christensen returned to play in 27 games, 11 as a starter, while averaging 7.2 points in 23 minutes as a sophomore in 1998-99 under coach Steve Cleveland.

This past season, Christensen played in all 33 games, starting seven times, and averaged 5.6 points in 17 minutes per game. An excellent long-range shooter, the 6-foot-1 Christensen made a team-leading 42 percent of his three-point attempts last year while serving primarily as a backup to fellow junior and Mountain West Conference Newcomer of the Year Terrell Lyday.

"I sincerely appreciate Todd's contribution to the program the past two years," Cleveland said. "But it was very obvious that Todd wanted a different role than he had in our program. I support Todd and wish him the very best at Westminster."
